PACIFIC INTERNATIONAL QUILT FESTIVAL . ON THE ROAD AGAIN.

NEW MUTED SHADES OF OSNABURG!

Back on the road again.  Heading for Santa Clara, CA for the wonderful PIQF show.  

OCTOBER 13-16  THURS., FRI., SAT., SUN.

This is a fabulous festival with incredible quilts and a huge variety of vendors.    If you can make it, please visit us in Booth 305, right inside the front entrance.   Along with the new shades of osnaburg we also have new hand dyed textured wool colors, hand dyed linens and velvets and so many patterns, kits and accessories that you won't know what to choose!

Since I know a lot of you are too many stitching miles away, we will try to share some of the show with you on our FB page.

Helen Anderson was the Featured Quilt Artist at the Wine Country Quilt Show this year.

Incredible Beautiful Quilts . . could have been the title of her exhibit.

Well we leave Monday for Salt Lake City.  Still things to do but isn't there always.  I hope that i'm not wrong thinking that it will be a fun trip.  I'll try to do some postings on our Facebook Page.

They are very excited about their first Quilt Market.

HEART OF THE REDWOODS QUILT SHOW

Love doing our local quilt show which is every other year.   What an amazing job the guild does preparing and executing this show.  From the scrumptious food from a local caterer, Dolores and Daughter, to the variety of quilts on display .  .this show is full up with interest and creativity.   It was a busy show but i managed to snap a few pictures which you can view by clicking on the Slideshow at the bottom of this post.

Nothing warms my stitching heart more than young stitchers carrying on the  sewing traditions.  

Melina, 16, who was helping in Grandma Joan''s sewing machine booth made good use of one of the crank Singers and stitched herself up a blouse in just a couple of hours.  She makes up patterns for many of her own clothes.

The top was even cuter.

The Junior Quilters had a good showing - Love that.

Just one of the many styles on display.

And maybe at a local show . . . a little family member might drop by.

BARBARA'S FIRST PLACE QUILT

Look who won First Place AND Best of Show at the Monterey Peninsula Quilt Show.

A most wonderful friend . . Barbara Barrieau!

The pattern is from Tula Pink.  It has 100 blocks.

Barbara said that it was the easiest quilt she has ever made and the most enjoyable.

The incredible quilting . . which i wish we could view more clearly . . was done by Holy Casey.

For any of you visiting PIQF next October, be on the look out for this sensational quilt.

What a beauty.    Congratulations Barbara!

NW QUILT EXPO - JAN ARRIVES

NW QUILT EXPO PORTLAND was super this year.  Lots of intriguing quilts and garments and
just a bustle of activity.

I took just a small sampling of photos - see them in the slide show at the bottom of this post.

And what a pleasant surprise this was . .

It was more than awesome.  See for yourself.

This is why i love doing what i do.  These things.  Most importantly . . she was as happy with her quilt as we were.  Satisfied stitchers make me smile .  . inside and out.

 And then there is Lulu.  Who made up yet another version of our

Sassy Little Apron.  Even used old kimono pieces for her embellishments.

SEVEN SISTERS QUILT SHOW

Love the beach destination quilt shows.  San Luis Obispo has alot to offer.   Night before set up, vendor friends and I took the trolley downtown to their bustling Farmers' Market.  The streets alive with garden goodies, enticing foods and entertainment at every corner.  The next evening discovering Los Osos a nearby beach town and then the following night . . Avila Beach . . my favorite.  It was robust with that beachy energy that warms you and fills your spirit with all that is good.  I wish the show was again next week . . i'm ready to go back.

Oh and then there was the show itself.   So well done.   I ran around during a break or two trying to get pictures.  Not a totally successful venture.  Many times there are bodies in front of the quilts admiring the stitches.   But I snapped enough for a little slide show below.  

Barbara Guerena made up our Lollipop Hill Pattern in her own lively colors.  Lively enough for that blue ribbon.  First place in the machine applique category.  It was magnificent.  You will see it again in the slide show.  Congratulations Barbara!  Love what you did with this.

FAT QUAIL QUILT SHOW - A SLIDESHOW

A couple of weeks ago my friend Marilee asked if I would care to go with her to the  Laytonville quilt show.  Had I ever gone to a quilt show and NOT set up a booth?  I could not remember doing that. 

 I was delighted, I accepted, and I eagerly awaited the day out of the studio and on the road!  Laytonville is a small town along 101.  Population just over 1200.  If you love historic information like I do, Laytonville was founded in 1874 by a Nova Scotian, Frank Layton, who built a blacksmithy and house at the site.  First post office - 1879.    ok.  

Less than an hour away from home.  A beautiful day.  I can't tell you how much fun it was to leisurely saunter about, chatting, exclaiming, laughing, and taking LOTS of photos.  The Fat Quail, which hosted this little outdoor show is a gem of a shop.  Debbie, the owner, is endlessly providing her customers with new samples, new products and mountains of new fabrics.
Inspiring . .  always. 

We were overwhelmed by what we saw at this "little town" show.
Incredible quilts came out of those hills.  A memorable day.

REDWOOD EMPIRE QUILT GUILD SHOW

The Eureka, Ca. guild, REQG, does not live down to its small city surroundings.  Big is their style.  Every other year they provide their community and beyond, with an unbelievable quilt show.  This year's vendors came from far and wide . . most likely hearing of the show's past successes.  Or I suppose it could have been that incredible, expansive vendor buffet on preview night.  We couldn't get over that.
Happily it was a busy two days.  I didn't even make it to many other booths.   Thanks to Sue however, there are some quilt pictures.  And thanks to Susie and Cheryl, they are identified.

Featured Quilters -  Judy DeGraff and Susie Freese

Both are proficient and prolific quilters.  Not shy in giving of themselves, they spend endless hours volunteering for numerous charity projects.

Susie not only has her own quilting business, Susie Sews, but also quilts for charity - hundreds of quilts yearly.  Fun gals too.  What perfect choices.

Annette - Greek Keys

Annette was lucky enough to take one of Sally Frey's (Kenmar Designs) retreats. It was called "Greek Keys" inspired by the white homes of Greece and the surrounding Meditteranean . . 

so very tranquil . . so very blue.

   However, Annette is more inspired to create with the bright colors of the tropics and beautiful Asian fabrics - so called her quilt "Keys to the Orient".

The spirally block is the Greek key design that can be seen on all of the ancient (and modern) Greek architecture.

Was small but one of my favorites.

This little fabric chest was nothing but awesome.  Loved the little ballerina with an ATTITUDE! (Cheryl)   Best described by Cheryl herself below.  (BTW. . That very unique curved table runner, beneath the chest, was made by Pat Reeves.)

Cheryl Pekar - Happy 60th Birthday

"I made the Treasure Chest for my 60^th birthday after finding a note from my mother (who died  7 years ago) saying Happy 60^th Birthday  Almost up there with me.  I have no idea where it came from or when she wrote it but when I found it about 3 months before my birthday knew I had to do something with it.  I started compiling photos and other collectibles (which are on the back sides of the photos…things like class rings, necklace from a boyfriend, awards, etc.).  It is just a momento box for me and I have added some other things to it since it returned home."

Thanks for that Cheryl.  And thank you all very much for visiting.  Recently went with a friend to another little wonderful quiltylicious localish show.  No work involved.  Enjoyed it immensely and have a slideshow of the shop and the outdoor quilts coming very soon.
